Obituary for Robert F Fountain

Robert Francis Fountain was born on October 6, 1924 in Syracuse to Frank and Gertrude (Klasy) Fountain. He grew up in Syracuse and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a medic. He worked for a time at Syracuse China, and retired from a career as a letter carrier in the U.S. Postal Service in 1979 to spend more time with his grandchildren.
He was a talented artist and voracious reader. He traveled throughout New York State and the U.S. with his wife, Alpha. He spent his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and neighbor. He taught his daughter and grandchildren invaluable lessons about persistence, patience and the importance of education. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima in North Syracuse, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus and participated in bowling leagues after his retirement.
He is sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Alpha (Dennis) Fountain, his daughter, Melanie (Jesse Lott) Kerwin; his grandchildren, Kara (Jeremiah) Kane and Ryan (Aubrey) Kerwin; his great-grandchildren, Richard Robert, Amelia and Mallory Kane, and Emma and Finnegan Kerwin; a niece, Charlene LaFleur. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Marjory Bauer, and great-niece, Kristy Mari Bauer.
Robert spent time at Loretto Nursing Home and his family thanks the staff there for the care he received.
Memorial services will be private.
