Condolence From: Carol Kinder Hartwig
Condolence: The news of Marks passing just reached me tonight. I am so profoundly sad and want to send my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. We were fast friends in high school and even met up during his sojourn in Scotland. I fondly remember a harrowing Ferris wheel ride with Keir and Jared at the Canfield Fair the last time I saw Mark when he, Gail and the boys attended our class reunion. I was so impressed with what a doting father he was. I considered Mark my friend and I am a better person for having known him.

Condolence: My heart felt sympathy to all of Mark's family. Mark was a gentleman with insight and kindness. I always admired his mind and curious nature. I am grateful to have known him and for being able to spend some time together after college. A fond memory is listening to music in the basement of his parents' house. We both loved Jethro Tull's album Aqualung and played it over and over.

Condolence: We studied speed-reading under his mom. Two seventh graders needed chained down but I know we two were better readers for the rest of our lives. Haven't seen him since he disappeared off to private school. Think of him sometimes.

Condolence: How very sad to learn of Mark's passing. Mark very kindly and patiently supervised a graduate project on Bewick woodcuts for me while I was working on my MLS in 1981. I worked at Bird for several years knowing him and his work there. I have always had nothing but respect for him and his professionalism. He will be missed, and yes, a treasure has been lost. My sincerest condolences to the family, and all of his beloved friends.

Condolence: I was saddened to learn today from a former faculty colleague at SU of Mark's death. As Art Librarian at SU from 1979 until 2004, I had the honor and pleasure of being his colleague. I wish to offer my condolences to Gail Doering who I knew not only as his wife but also as an art library patron. I also offer my condolences to his very supportive and caring friend Marty Hanson another library colleague that I enjoyed knowing and working with during my time at SU. Randy Bond New Hampshre

Condolence: Mark was a colleague/friend at Syracuse University over 20 years ago. Some of my favorite memories of SU are of working with him. He introduced me to the papers of Rudyard Kipling, artwork by the first artist of the Wizard of Oz, and much more. He was kind and patient and very smart. I remember Mark returning to work after the birth of one of his sons...he was so happy to be a father. Mark was a treasure at Syracuse University. A good man. I am so sorry for your loss.
