Obituary for John W. Gilstrap

John W. Gilstrap, 80, of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday. He was born in 1935 in Greenville, SC, grew up in Baltimore, MD and lived in Fayetteville for over 50 years. John graduated from the US Naval Academy and received a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin. After his active service in the US Air Force, John spent 25 years at the Carrier Corporation. He was also a member of the New York Air National Guard, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
John was an avid bridge player, enjoyed golf, reading and spending the Summer months in the Adirondacks.
He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 58 years; 2 daughters; Kim Charette of Manlius, NY, Kathy McKee of Charleston, SC; and 3 grandsons.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the F-M J-D Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 72, Manlius, NY 13104.
