Obituary for John Arthur "Jack" Gray

John A. (Jack) Gray of Fayetteville passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at the VA Medical Center. Jack was surrounded by family, friends and caring VA staff. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Jack was born in Syracuse December 1, 1947 to the late Robert and Irene Gray. After receiving his degree in Medical Technology from Ferris State College in Michigan, Jack worked in laboratory sales before he went to work for University Hospital as the Phlebotomy Supervisor. During his time in the blood drawing lab Jack spent many hours taking care of children battling severe illness. All of them brightened his day. Jack retired from University Hospital in 2007 and went to work part time at Internist Associates of CNY Clinical Laboratory. Jack had a full and satisfying career. In addition, Jack volunteered at Cazenovia Country Club (helping with their website) and for Make-A-Wish of Central New York where he was a wish granter until his health would no longer allow him to continue in that capacity. Still wanting to help, Jack volunteered his time to build and maintain the Make-A-Wish website. In 2013 Jack received the Make-A-Wish volunteer of the year award “The Cindy Award”.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Jim. He will be missed by his wife, Cheryl, his brother Bob, brothers-in-law, Doug, Tom and Mike, sisters-in-law, Andrea and Lil, nieces and nephews, James, Amy, Jenny, Richard, Colin, Natalie and Douglas, many wonderful friends and his good buddy Harvey.
