Obituary for Daniel Francis Gates

Daniel Francis Gates, 92, of Chittenango, died at home on November 9, 2016. Dan was born at home in Chittenango on April 27, 1924. He was the son of the late Francis and Naomi Gates and grandson of Senator John and Nellie Gates of Chittenango and William O. and Ida May Wilcox of Manlius. He graduated June 9, 1943 from Avon Old Farms School in Avon, CT. He was a Dairyman and businessman all his life. Dan was raised in the Methodist Church in Chittenango. He was a member and past President of the Chittenango Rotary Club, Producer Dealer of America, former President and member of the NY/NJ Producer Dealer, Life member of Sanitations of America, President of Madison Onondaga Land Owners Inc. and member of American Medical Milk Commission.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth N. Gates and John Heath Jobes III of Ojai, CA and Katherine Gates and Michael D. O’Sullivan of Lamar, MO; two sons, Christopher Gruppe Gates and Karl Wilson Gates both of Chittenango; five grandchildren, Michael D-S and Heather O’Sullivan, Shane McGoun O’Sullivan and Lindsay O’Sullivan, Keely O’Sullivan, Jeremiah J. Gates and Joshua A. Gates; and two great-grandchildren, Luke F. O’Sullivan and Margaret F. O’Sullivan. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Gates.
A memorial service will be at a time to be announced. Burial will in the Gates Family Cemetery on Route 173 in Chittenango.
