Obituary for Dorothy Ruth Stanley

Dorothy R. (Mott) Stanley, 97, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully at Iroquois Nursing Home on Saturday, December 24, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Fayetteville NY, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Nash) Mott, a pioneer family in the village of Fayetteville, owner of Mott Brothers Hardware, and the family for whom Mott Road was named. Dorothy was a life-long resident of the Fayetteville and Syracuse area.
She graduated from Fayetteville High School, class of 1937, and Powelson Business Institute. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for most of her adult life, Dorothy was an inspector for the General Electric Corp. early in her career, and was also an Election Day worker for many years. She was a den mother for the Eastwood Cub Scouts, a lunchroom volunteer at Blessed Sacrament School in Eastwood, and a “Band Booster” at Bishop Grimes High School in East Syracuse. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, and especially loved many outdoor activities including hiking, biking, swimming, and gardening. Dorothy was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Stan; three sons Richard (Michele) of Tucson AZ, Donald of Richmond VA, and James of East Syracuse, and a grandson Michael of Jacksonville FL.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dorothy’s many caregivers, especially to Sharon Ward; the nurses and home aids from St. Joseph’s Home Health Care, and the dedicated and caring staff of Crouse Hospital, and Iroquois Nursing Home. Special thanks to the priests and staff of Immaculate Conception Church, Eucharistic Minister Kay Egitton, the Fayetteville Fire Department, and her physician of many years, Dr. Roert Cupelo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Immaculate Conception Church Renovation Fund, 400 Salt Springs Road, Fayetteville NY.
