Obituary for Virginia E. Walker

Virginia H. Walker, 96, formerly of Kirkville and East Syracuse, passed away Saturday surrounded by three generations of her loving family. She was one of seven children born to John and Elizabeth Hardy and grew up near Detroit, Michigan. A devoted homemaker, she was also a Girl Scout leader, a Board of Elections poll worker, a religious education instructor and co-founder of The Second Time Around Store at St. Matthew's Church, and served on committees at St. Mary's Church. Virginia's love for her family, and theirs for her, was boundless and unending and shone through countless get-togethers, meals and especially camping trips. Her husband of 65 years, Lenfred Walker, died in 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Jacklyn Durantini of East Syracuse and Elizabeth (Art) Scofield of Liverpool; a son, Alan (Nancy) of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Clifford (Linda) Hardy and sister Alice (Lawrence) Pence of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff of Loretto’s Cunningham facility for the loving care they gave Virginia the past four years. Funeral services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, 401 N. Main St., Minoa. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp's Corners Rd., Minoa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Virginia’s memory to St. Matthew’s Second Time Around Store or St. Mary’s Food Pantry.
