Obituary for Harold A. Oot

Harold Albert Oot, 82, of Kirkville went home to heaven on Tuesday, where he joined his parents and three brothers. He died peacefully at home with his wife and family by his side. He was born in Syracuse and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Minoa.
Harold’s love of his family and love of camping led him to the RV Industry. In 1969 he, along with his wife Helen, established Seven O’s RV Sales. The name came from him, Helen and their 5 children, the seven “Oots”. Over the years, Harold’s incredible drive to succeed and his love of people helped bring the joy of camping to thousands of families.
During his early years in business, Harold would frequently work 6 or 7 days a week, sometimes until late at night. He was the driving force assuring the company’s success. By 1983 Harold and Helen incorporated the business giving their children the opportunity to participate in the ownership and operation of the company.
Harold and Helen loved to vacation in a camper, usually in Florida and the Adirondacks, but traveling as far west as Yellowstone as well. Harold enjoyed working around the camps he and Helen owned, first on Eaton Brook Reservoir, and later on Cazenovia Lake. He also enjoyed working around Seven O’s on his tractors.
Harold loved people, especially his family. He always had a warm smile for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His face would light up whenever he greeted friends, family, employees and even new acquaintances.
On behalf of Harold the family would like to thank everyone who helped Harold throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Zapf Oot; a daughter, Jeannie Covert of Fayetteville; four sons, David Bachman-Oot (Lori), Paul Oot (Joanne), John Oot (Patti) and Harold E. Oot (Marianne); nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:30 pm Saturday at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp’s Corners Rd., Minoa. A service will follow the calling hours at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
