Condolence From: Tony Liccione
Condolence: To Jewell and the entire Gabriel Family: How much Charlie touched my life for almost 40 years. As a professor being one of his students at Syracuse University, or as one of his placed interns at Pneumo Corporation, as a consultant supporting my many projects in Syracuse and in New Jersey at Bristol-Myers Squibb, or as a tennis mentor and challenger, or as a supporter and team member of the Cystic Fibrosis "Challenges", or just being a true friend who you could count on whenever in need i.e. whether he was lending an ear, giving solid advice, lightening up the mood with his wit or "springing into action" to help. He will be truly missed and our hearts and prayers are with him, Jewell and the entire Gabriel family. God bless the Lord for giving us the gift of the life of Charlie Gabriel and receive him into your kingdom. Tony & Lisa Liccione and the entire Liccione Family

Condolence From: Uncle Kenny
Condolence: Jewell, Joanne, Renee, John, Tom and Tanya, This has to be one of the saddest moments of my life, being so far in a hospital, grieving as never before. Oh, how I wish I was there to hug, console and grieve with you. There is an expression in French: “As man proposes, The good Lord disposes.” But I will soon be with you.” Charles was an unique individual. He was not only my brother, but protector and best friend. At least I was able to chant for him and assure him God was waiting to receive his soul on the days before he slipped into eternity. Charles above all was devoted to Jewell and his children and grandchildren. He reveled in their achievements and the joy he received from his grandkids. Charles was so devoted to St. Elias Church, his Orthodox faith the choirs he sang in, both the Church and in the community. Mom, dad, our Sittos formed the very fabric of his life and he cherished how mother worked to elevate the status of the family when she single-handed opened Gabriel's Groceries on Bellevue Ave, thereby, forcing our workhorse of a father driving for Morans to retire and tend the store with her. It took some time for them to show a profit, for the brothers, all us of ate all the steaks in the back room, on a small stove, telling our parents to go home and rest. The next day they said, good boys, we will show a profit today...little did they know we ate their profits. That was reminiscent when we shared a paper route together and after polling our tips, we would go, to White Tower at 6AM and spend our little profits on hamburgers. Dad would say, boys, how did you do today, and we just gulped and burped. When Charles entered the Sheriffs Department, he became the pride of both family and community. While he served overseas, his greatest achievements were serving Syracuse, Onondaga County in the various positions he held. He was far ahead of his time in the computer age, reading every manual until he mastered the "lingo" and went on to spearhead the instant identification of any offender by the officer doing his duty. He also, was instrumental in the installation of 911 all over New York State, in fact, he had just done so where my daughter Tammy lived and was the first to learn of the fatal, accident that took the life of Janna, his grandniece. Charles was widely respected in his field, whether computer science, law enforcement, or management skills in and out of his department, Syracuse University and throughout the State. His name is considered "golden" because he was so transparent, he said what he meant and he meant what he said. Honest to the core, he stood a cut above the rest, never cutting corners, or compromising excellence by lowering standards or the so called bottom line. This might have incurred some jealousy from less professionals in his field. He certainly was a forerunner in his field at that time. He and Jewell were blessed with five children and they both worked hard together to raise them. Charles, in his field and Jewell practicing her gift as a hair dresser in their home. They kept their eye on the ball, raising five kids, playing tennis and doing their utmost knitting the family unit together. This was no easy task in those years but they were steady parents giving the best they could to make their journeys in life successful and upright citizens of society. Of course, there were valleys and peaks as in all families, but Jewell and Charles were unwavering in their support of whatever chosen path each one chose to follow. Their kitchen table was like a daily Eucharist, blessed feasts where they were always satiated with their love for one another and the goodies mom prepared for them. When Charles and Jewell built their new home, my gosh, I, almost never saw anyone with so much happiness, as Charles had in the comfort of his pride and joy, his home, built with the honest labors of a lifetime of struggles. Once when they came to our home in Vermont, and he brought some seedlings from our yard and he watched them grow into magnificent trees. He took three, but two survived, maybe as a sign of our bond. Also, as a symbol of the seeds he planted in the heart and minds of his Children. This home was a place where their family celebrated life and love, and especially with the arrival of grandchildren, he relished every moment the loves of his life. I am at least glad Charles had these joyful moments that he shared with Jewell. He often regaled us with stories over the phone about his being their “Jiddo”, this was his haven and heaven on earth. We were so fortunate these past years to travel together, laugh and play like little kids rediscovering one another for the first time. We have unforgettable memories to cherish the rest of our lives. He was a man of many parts, so, talented once he made on parchment the Creed. In the ancient text, each word artistically drawn as to have come from the depths of his highly sensitive and brilliant soul, and heart. Philip, Abe, Sharon and I grieve at the lost of our beloved brother, a grief that is boundless, and we together salute Jewell for her unselfish devotion to our brother, for one thing, she always wanted us to be together as a family and most importantly how you cared for our brother all during his health issues. You stood steadfast in your loving care, so much so, he was to leave his earthly dwelling in the bosom of his home as his soul fled to the Kingdom of God, as a beloved son. It is said, what is it to die but to free the soul from its restless tides. Farewell and the youth we have spent together, and if we shall meet together, we shall build a new tower in the skies, and sing a new song! (K.Gibran) Charles, also it is said, one knows not the depth of love until the hour of departure. (Gibran). This is written with tears on my iPad this evening, Charles, we always loved you but the separation is cutting us to the very core of our beings. Charles on the night before you left us, you saw a light, you have gone to the light, as you were also the light of our lives! My brother Charles, rest now in the loving arms of the Christ, whom you loved and served. Well done Thy Good And Faithful Servant, Enter into the Joy of the Lord! Finally, one wrote. Do not say that I have God in my heart, but rather you are in the heart of God, Yes, you are! Farewell until we meet again, we all love you... Sharon, I did this tonight fix what you will...I do not know if I have the stamina do write more on my hospital bed with not one book. Only that which is in the heart. Love you darling for being you....

Condolence From: Laraine Mahshie
Condolence: Jewell, all the children, grandchildren and siblings: Charles had such love, compassion and deep sense of loyalty. He was the absolute epitome of what it is to live a Christian life helping the needy, handicapped and less fortunate. I can never repay what Charles and Jewell did for George and I in the last five years. I am so grateful that God gave me these angels at a needed time and know that Charles is now with our Lord in the palm of His Hands. May God give peace and rest to Charles' beautiful soul and comfort that all the family will be able to endure this great loss. With much love, Laraine Mahshie
