Obituary for Anna Kaufman

Anna  Kaufman
Anna Kaufman, 76, of Manlius passed away Saturday. She was born in Teaneck, NJ the daughter of the late Anton and Anna Unger. Anna grew up in the Bronx and attended City College where she obtained her Undergraduate and Masters Degree in Education. Anna was an Elementary School Teacher at P.S 157, and was a devoted teacher in that community until her retirement.

She was of the Catholic faith and was actively involved in the churches community projects including, tutoring, youth and development programs. Anna also knitted and crocheted hats for newborn babies in hospitals.

Anna’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and was very proud of her families accomplishments. She also enjoyed crafts and making jewelry, in large part because of the joy this brought to others.

Anna is predeceased by her husband of 21 years, Dr. Robert Kaufman.

Surviving are her daughter, Leah (Thomas Hendricks) Kaufman M.D.; son, Shawn (Sharyn) Kaufman; sisters, Dorothy (Jerry) Adler and Barbara Fox; grandchildren, Amelie Kaufman, Ian, Aaron and Kira Hendricks; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10-Noon at the Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd. Manlius. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 104 Academy St. Manlius. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.

Contributions in Anna’s memory may be made to, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213.
