Obituary for Arlene Gail Dittmar

Arlene G. Dittmar, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday. She was born in NYC, the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Henschke. Mrs. Dittmar was born Arlene Gail Henschke on January 31, 1947.
Arlene had fond memories of many summers spent at the Jersey Shore surrounded by her cousins and big sister Elizabeth, who she described as her protector. She graduated from Seward Park High School in 1964. Her hobbies included writing poetry and reading. Arlene was an avid baseball fan (NY Mets) from a young age. She met her husband, John, in 1972. The two wed in 1975 and moved to Central New York (Syracuse in 1978), shortly after the birth of their only child.
She worked many years at James Square Nursing Home in Syracuse, first as a Recreational Activities Leader and also as a Medical Transcriptionist. She very much enjoyed connecting with the elderly residents, and keeping them smiling was always her number one priority. As a Transcriptionist, her typing speed and accuracy was second to none.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John F. Dittmar; son, John H. Dittmar; sister, Elizabeth Leffler; nephew, David Leffler; and life long friend, Theresa Delpercio.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St. Fayetteville. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm.
