Condolence: I only wish we could describe the sadness we feel after learning of this news about David. We've worked with him during a few years of grant applications to the Community Foundation and can only describe him as a beautiful, joyful, and tender soul. Condolence: Dave will always hold a special place in my heart. Our working relationship had grown that he knew what I was thinking before I said it and often finished my thoughts or helped me find the words I so often struggle to find. Dave supported me through my transition into my new role but always found time to just be my friend. I will miss his humor, laugh, brilliance and his kindness. Rest in peace ~ my friend.

Condolence: I got to know Dave for only a short time. But his passing has really affected me. He was a lovely man - friendly, kind and generous. He told me a number of times that he missed his brother. It's comforting to me to know that he's with him now on that other plane of existence. My thought and prayers for peace and comfort go out to his family and friends. R.I.P.

Condolence: David was always such a friendly and warmhearted person, and it came as an absolute shock to hear about his untimely passing. When David was a part of something he made it fun, such as sledding during our cub scout meetings in the winter when we were kids, to talking with him in high school when he would always know the most perfect thing to say to make you laugh. David will be greatly missed by everyone, and my heart goes out to David's family.

Condolence: I was heartbroken to learn on Dave's passing. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. Dave made Syracuse feel like home for the year I lived there and worked with him at CNYCF. When I was moving away he wrote to me that he was not good at goodbyes--he always clammed up--so all there was to say was "I'm going to miss you." He was funny, handsome, and kind. He welcomed me into his group of friends, put up with endless trips for Gannon's ice cream, and spent time studying obscure Scrabble words so that we could try to win at Charity Scrabble. Now, all I can say is, I am going to miss you.

Condolence: Dave and I started working at Community Foundation in 2010, just one month apart. It was the first "real" job either of us had and it was wonderful to have a trusted friend and confidant in Dave. He and I grew closer throughout my time there, and although I ended up on a different career path in a different part of the country, we kept in close contact throughout the years. Dave's energy and humor could light up any room. He had a positive outlook on anything life threw at him. He will be deeply missed.

Condolence: It was a great pleasure to have known, Dave. From the moment I met him and his brother on the first day of college I felt a special bond with them. On a recent trip back to Syracuse I had the pleasure of sharing a moment with him at a local Fayetteville restaurant. It truly was wonderful catching up - albeit briefly. I admired Dave for his strength and was I always struck by his warmth and humor. He was your friend's little brother you always wanted around. Kindest wishes and regards to the Kirkpatrick family.

Condolence: I keep hearing Dave's incredible laugh in my head and hope I can always remember that sound. He was everyone's friend. Through middle school pranks to high school committees, Dave was a central figure to us all at FM and throughout Syracuse. He was the best Junior prom date a girl could ask for and the best friend any of us could have hoped for at school and beyond. He made everything look cool. He was one of the most genuine, thoughtful, kind and hilarious human beings I've ever met. The best example of his character and a memory I'll never forget was calling him immediately after Andy's passing and Dave taking a moment to ask how I was doing. That was just Dave's way. My deepest condolences to his entire family. Thank you for the memories, my friend. I love you.

Our hearts and prayers are with the family. If we could take some of your pain, we would.

Condolence From: Central New York Community Foundation
Condolence: Dave was a valued member of the Central New York Community Foundation team since 2010. Dave’s wholehearted commitment to helping nonprofits shone in the extensive relationships he built within and beyond his immediate network. His dedication, expertise and unfailing approachability garnered instant respect from peers, leaders and volunteers alike. Dave was a force for good – in his community and life in general. His passion for family, friends and community was perhaps only rivaled by his love of pop culture and the Oxford comma. We will miss his wit, his kindness, his infectious laugh, his impeccable grammar, and his uncanny trivia knowledge. Most of all, we will miss our friend Dave. We extend our deepest sympathy to Dave’s family and friends, and we will continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers.
