Obituary for Shirley N. Mapstone

Shirley N.  Mapstone
Shirley N. Mapstone, 90, of Manlius passed away Tuesday at Crouse Hospital. Born in St. Johnsville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna (Flanders) Nellis. Shirley graduated from the Eastman School of Music and earned her Master’s Degree from Syracuse University in Music. Shirley taught throughout NY, working in Henrietta, Minoa, Fabius and Fayetteville-Manlius schools, with the majority of her career working as an elementary school music teacher at F-M.
Shirley was past president of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Monday Evening Club, and was active with the American Baptist Women of New York State. Shirley was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Manlius for sixty-one years, serving as a Sunday school teacher and director of Joyful Sounds.
Shirley loved her cats, gardening, teaching music and piano and square dancing as a member of the Sullivan Squares. Shirley loved cooking, baking and hosting gatherings of friends and family. She and her late husband, Robert, owned and operated a Dairy Farm in Manlius. They enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling abroad.
She is predeceased by her husband, L. Robert Mapstone; sister, Doris Rockefeller; and brother, Donald Nellis.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Morales of Fayetteville and Ellen Banks of Knoxville, TN; two sons, Mark (Cindy) of Cazenovia and Peter (Melissa) of Manlius; twelve grandchildren, Jason Morales (Laura), Elena and Christie Banks; Adrian, Isla, Jeremy, Kelsey, Lauren, Morgan and Taylor Mapstone and Katherine Knapp; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday, September 30 from 4 to 7 pm at the Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Road, Manlius. Calling hours will continue on October 1st from 1 to 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Manlius, 408 Pleasant Street, Manlius. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 pm at the church with burial immediately following in Manlius Village Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Shirley N. Mapstone may be made to the First Baptist Church of Manlius.
