Obituary for Andrew Barden

Andrew Barden
Andrew Sears Barden, son of Rev. Bruce S. and Rev. Kathleen B. Barden, of Syracuse, NY died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in Vancouver, WA. He was born December 18, 1972, in Ithaca, NY. He attended school in Oneida, NY and was a graduate of New Hartford, NY High School. He attended Allegheny College, Meadville, PA and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Hendrix College, Conway, AK. Prior to moving to Vancouver, WA, he lived several years in California. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sunny-Kim Barden of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Kristen Barden and her fiancé, Kevin Kapel of Washington, DC; his uncle, Lynn J. Barden (Lynne W. Barden) of Washington, DC; his aunts, Maralee Dougherty of Leesburg, FL, Shirley Hoyt of Rochester, NY and Shirley Sears Mills of Jamesville, NY; and several cousins. Andy’s “Brother-from-another-Mother”, life-long juggling partner and co-founder of InJest, Inc., Nels Cremean of Buffalo, NY is also mourning his loss.

He was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Vancouver, WA, where he sang in the choir and worked with the youth. Besides juggling and performing, Andy enjoyed playing the guitar and singing “camp songs”. He was mostly at home when he was out doors living a simple, organic life-style, creating deep relationships and laughter. He will be remembered most for his compassion and his far reaching, inquisitive mind.

A service of celebration for Andy’s life will be held at Casowasco Conference and Retreat Center on Saturday, October 21 at 1:30 PM. His inurnment in the Columbarium will be there as well. A time to greet the family will follow the service.

Honoring Andy’s memory may be done through donations to the Casowasco Camping Scholarship Fund, 158 Casowasco Drive, Moravia, NY 13118. Include in the notation: in memory of Andrew S. Barden.

Your prayers for his family and friends are greatly appreciated.
