Lawrence (Larry) Kilbride of Fayetteville died Sunday in St. Joseph’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife, son and closest friends “The Bubridello” were at his bedside.
Born in Manhattan, and raised in the Bronx, Larry graduated from St. John’s and Cardinal Hayes H.S. He moved with his family to Suffern, NY shortly before he began attending LeMoyne College, Syracuse. While at LeMoyne, he met his wife of forty-six years, Julia (née Pigott) when they were both freshmen.
After graduating with a B.A. in History, Larry began his 32 year career at Jamesville-DeWItt H.S. teaching Global Studies and Economics and coaching JV basketball.
Larry was a lifelong sports enthusiast, an avid fan of the Yankees, Giants, and S.U. basketball. He was also a very talented cook who took pleasure in entertaining friends and family with fabulous gourmet meals.
After retiring from J.D. in 2004, Larry enjoyed golfing with his buddies who bestowed on him the honorary title of “Commissioner of Golph”.
Everyone will remember Larry as a thoughtful, caring person who in his quiet way was always ready to help his family and friends. He was known for his dry, ironic sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh at simple, everyday things.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Julie and cherished son, Danny. He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Jeanne LeClair of Chalfont, PA, Mary Loder (James) of Glen Ridge, NJ; brothers, Jim (Mary née Bianco) of Pomona, NY, Zeke of Monsey, NY; sisters-in-law, Eileen Campbell (Tom) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lisa Dubyoski of Baltimore, MD; ten nieces; five nephews; and many dear friends and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Rita (née Wambold) and infant brother, Christopher.
Calling hours will be Friday, October 27 from 4-8 pm at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to American Cancer Society.
