Frederick Sean Hodge MD
May 6, 1967 - December 15, 2017

Frederick Sean Hodge MD, born May 6, 1967, passed away suddenly from a rare coronary artery anomaly on December 15, 2017 at age 50. Sean was born in New Jersey but spent most of his life in the Syracuse area. He attended school in Fayetteville where he did well and was a gymnast, and then studied at The University of Colorado. He received his MD degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed residency in Otolaryngology at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He practiced Otolaryngology in Syracuse for two decades prior to his death. He was a caring physician dedicated to his patients and doing what he judged to be in their best interest. He placed loyalty to patients and to his office staff as a top priority in his life.

He married Susan Rogers and they lived in Syracuse and then Cazenovia where they raised their two loving daughters. Sean was a serious man notable for his kindness and his intellect. He was dedicated to his family spending as much time as possible with his children. He was interested in a wide range of issues and was always ready to discuss and argue for his perspective of favoring the underprivileged and less fortunate. He loved music and from early years as a Grateful Dead enthusiast to his years of playing classical guitar, folk music, and his future plans of taking up Gypsy Jazz guitar, he could always be found practicing, playing, and enjoying music of all types. He was an excellent skier and had found an affinity for sailing. He spent many vacations and holidays with his extended family in Martha’s Vineyard, a place where he found peace from the rigors of medical practice. He was proud of and dedicated to his two daughters. He leaves painful and empty places in the hearts of his family.

He is survived by his wife Susan; two daughters, Olivia and Abigail Hodge; his two brothers and their wives, CJ and Kristen Hodge, and Jason and Rachel Hodge; his mother, Caroline Hodge; his step mother and father, Cathy Chu and Charles Hodge; and nieces and nephews, Joseph, Derek, Chloe and Jana.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 to 6:30 pm Wednesday, December 20th at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A service will follow the calling hours.

A celebration of his life will be scheduled in the Spring.
