Obituary for Elma Norris

Elma Norris
Elma I. Norris of Cazenovia, NY, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2017. She was born in Liverpool on February 28, 1930 to Joseph and Pearl Koegel. Elma graduated from Cato-Meridian Central School in 1949 and from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1953. She was an art teacher for 24 years at Onondaga Central, Morrisville-Eaton Central and Cazenovia Central Schools.

Besides teaching, Elma was a wonderful homemaker to her two sons and husband. At Christ Church in Manlius, she painted wooden ornaments for the Christmas Mart, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She also found time to knit scarves for the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY. Elma loved to square dance. She and her husband Walt belonged to the Cazenovia Swingers in the 1970’s and 80’s. During that time, they attended national square dance conventions in California, Maryland and Indiana.

Elma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Walter; two sons: Gregg (Jean) of Guilford, NY and Timothy (Suzanne) of Odessa, FL; as well as four grandchildren, Bethany (Joseph Baez), Joshua, Sarah and Daniel.

Calling hours will be held from 1:45-3:45 pm Thursday, January 4, 2017 at Crosby Hall - Christ Church, 407 East Seneca St. Manlius, NY. Funeral service will be celebrated at the church at 4:00 pm, with a brief reception to follow at Crosby Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Christ Church, 407 East Seneca St., Manlius NY 13104.
