Condolence: I am so sorry Mr. Sly has passed away. He started at ESM while I was there, and we loved our trips to Old Forge to give concerts in the band shell. Jack was also a neighbor and I babysat for his five children (at the time), listening to his precious collection of Frank Sinatra records after the kids were in bed. After I became a music teacher myself, we occasionally met as colleagues at NYSSMA festivals. He was a great guy, and please know I am thinking of all of you in his family.

Condolence: Jack was both a colleague and friend, but mostly a friend. My condolences to Patty and family on your loss. Thank you Jack for a million laughs and a lot of good shared memories. Your passion for music and teaching and life were an inspiration for me.

Condolence: As his student, Jack influenced my interest in music and encouraged, successfully, my progressing to music school.

We had lots of fun chatting about skiing, and we enjoyed meeting each other's families. Seeing him arrive at school in his delightful little Triumph sports car was always a hoot as he was all smiles and full of energy.

He and Willard Mathers were quite a pair, full of talent and encouragement.

We will all miss him.
Love to you old friend.

Condolence: I was a member of Mr. Sly's marching and concert band at ES-M more years ago than I care to remember. He was a good teacher and all around nice guy. Heaven just gained another trombone player. May he rest in peace.
