Obituary for Ruth Groesbeck Mothersell

Ruth Groesbeck  Mothersell
Ruth (Thorp) Groesbeck Mothersell, 93, of Kirkville passed away on Friday, at Crouse Hospital, in the manner that she lived her life, with grace and dignity, embraced by her loving family. Born on May 2nd, 1924 to Willard and Erma Thorp, she lived a full and rewarding life.

Her career as Secretary to the Director of Housing at Upstate Medical Center earned her the love and respect of the Director, Donald Midlam, and countless doctors throughout Central New York and the surrounding areas; being recognized as the heart and soul of the housing operation in 1981.

Ruth found joy in flowers, birds, classical music and the antics of her grandchildren. A ferocious reader, she easily devoured seven books in a week. Her tireless energy and devotion was displayed in service to her church family into her 90’s.

She was predeceased by husband, Robert Mothersell; granddaughter, Lori Essman, daughter-in-law, Rebecca Groesbeck, sons-in-law, David Cremeans and David Morgillo, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Surviving to cherish her memory are daughters, Julia Cremeans, Esther Morgillo, Kathy Posner, Carol (Robert Tringali) Charette and Evelyn (Peter) Dumanian; sons, Duane (Anne) Groesbeck, Arthur Groesbeck and Chester (Angela) Groesbeck; step-son, Bruce (Kathy) Mothersell; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Groesbeck; 27 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Wilma Hayes and Alice Hayes; brother, Robert (Beverly) Thorp; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, at Minoa United Methodist Church, 246 East Ave., Minoa, NY 13116. A celebration of Ruth’s life will follow at the church.
