Obituary for John Robert "Bob" Gerbin

John Robert Gerbin, 90, of Jamesville passed away on Tuesday at the Cottages at Garden Grove in Cicero, with his family at his side. Bob was born in Little Falls, NY to the late Alice (Perry) and John Gerbinski on September 8, 1927. He graduated from high school near the end of WWII, and directly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from Colgate University.

Bob worked as a Realtor in Syracuse. For many years he was a co-owner of Onondaga Properties.

He enjoyed a full and active life. Bob was a voracious reader. He loved music and could often be spotted on a ballroom dance floor with his wife, Issy. Throughout his life, he sang with a number of musical groups. Most recently, he sang with the September Trio. They performed at retirement communities and nursing homes. He traveled widely with Issy, and loved spending time with his family every summer in the Adirondacks.

Bob was an avid skier, hitting the slopes as often as he could, up until his mid-eighties. He also loved sharing a nice meal, accompanied by a glass of wine, with family and friends. His opinions, quips and smile will be greatly missed.

Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Isabelle (Wooden) Gerbin; two children, Robert (Lynn) Gerbin of Syracuse, and Judith (Donald Johnson) Gerbin of Yonkers, NY; one grandchild, Jessica Gerbin; and two nieces.

A Memorial Service will be April 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Dewitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd. East, DeWitt, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aurora of Central New York Inc., 518 James St., Suite 100, Syracuse, NY 13203 or www.auroraofcny.org
