Obituary for Joanne C. Moore

Joanne C. (Welch) Moore, 89, of Kirkville, passed away peacefully on Thursday surrounded by her family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Donald W. and Mary Holihan Welch. She attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, St. John the Evangelist High School, Marywood College and Miss Henley’s Business School.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Moore in 1980; brother Donald M. Welch; and sister Mary Jean Kane.

She worked for many years for the East Syracuse Minoa School District and retired as President of Central Carbonic Sales and Service, which she co-owned with her husband. She was a dedicated Catholic and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Minoa where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Mother’s Club and Bereavement Group.

Joanne loved and lived her life to the fullest. She raised her family with a beautiful combination of authority, grace and humor. She will be missed by her children, Stephen C. (Carol) Moore of Florida, Jeffrey R. Moore of Florida and Marcella M. (Salvatore) Durso of Michigan; her grandchildren Carly Hein (whom Joanne lived with), Alecia Moore, Elizabeth (Johnta) Daniels and Lianne Moore, Salvatore Durso and Samuel Durso.; great grandchildren Braden and Chase Daniels.

Service to others was very important to Joanne. She was a caregiver to her father, her husband and close friends in their time of illness. She relied on her experiences as a young widow to provide comfort and counsel to many people as they grieved the loss of a loved one.

Joanne’s family would like to thank Dr. Sandra Sulik and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the kind care they provided.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 18 at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp’s Corners Rd. Minoa. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 19 at St. Mary’s Church, 401 N. Main St. Minoa. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt following the Mass.

In the spirit of Joanne’s dedication to caregiving and her Catholic faith, donations may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
