Obituary for Alfred R. Hartmann

Alfred Richard Hartmann, 84, of Pompey, NY passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Chandler Hall Hospice of Newtown, PA.

Born on June 4, 1935 in Stuttgart, Germany, Alfred was the son of Alfred and Lena Hartmann. He was a graduate of Daimler vocational training in Stuttgart, and he spent 32 years working at New Process Gear as a large machine repairman before retiring in 1996.

Alfred was an avid hiker who, with his wife Sonja, climbed all 46 of the Adirondack High Peaks. He loved to travel with Sonja, visiting all 50 states, and he loved sailing on Lorton Lake. He also was a longtime member and President of the Bavarian Club Almenrausch Schuplattler Group, a German folk dancing group.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Graetel Hartmann.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Sonja Doris (Klein) Hartmann; son, Markus Uwe (Colleen) Hartmann of Titusville, NJ; and grandchildren, Olivia Marie, Markus Alfred, John Thomas, and Robert James Hartmann.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church, 7368 Academy St., Pompey, NY. There will be a reception immediately following the mass in the lower level of the church.
