Obituary for Bernadine K. Townsend

At the ripe old age of 92, on an early Sunday morning, Bernie Townsend passed between this world and the next. In spite of suffering many infirmities, Bernie maintained her feistiness until the end. She loved socializing, and the best gift you could give her was to visit with her, yakking and laughing, reminiscing about good times and family, answering her barrage of questions about everything and anything.

Bernie was originally from Fairport NY, settling in Fayetteville , NY in 1965. She was an avid antique dealer, owning her own shop and then later joining the Syracuse Antique Exchange where she worked until 89 years of age. She loved to share her finds with her family. She always had “something I want to show you.” She also enjoyed traveling, making it to six of the seven continents (Sorry Antarctica, she just was not into you). Her greatest joy, though, was visiting with her sizable family.

Bernie was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Dominic Prinzivalli; sister, Thelma Mancuso; and the greatest love of her life, her husband of 52 years, Charlie, who passed away 13 years ago.

Bernie is survived by her baby brother, Richard Prinzivalli (Ruth); and her four daughters, Mary Jane Jones, Catherine Rocine (Bryan), Amy Manley (Ray), and (last but not least) Alice Townsend. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and her thirteen great-grandchildren, including her unabashed favorite, Giorgio, who she loved so much because he looked like Charlie.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St. Fayetteville. A funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fayetteville Cemetery.
