Obituary for Betty Jane Mitscher

Betty Jane Mitscher, a beloved wife and mother, left this earth on Saturday.

She was born Elizabeth Jane Daniel in Williamsville, NY to Florence and George Daniel. She was an avid reader that brought her to become a wonderful resource as a librarian. She got her degree at Geneseo and began her career as a librarian at Alfred State College before getting a job at Cornell University where she met the love of her life, James Mitscher. They married October 10, 1959 and had two daughters.

After raising her daughters, Betty Jane began long term substitute librarian jobs in the Fayetteville Manlius District until she got a position as the librarian for the Chittenango High School for many years until she retired. She thoroughly enjoyed her work as a librarian but loved the time she spent with her family. B.J. was always involved in her daughters lives’ and activities becoming a girl Scout leader and a Backstage Backers member helping with school plays and shows.

Betty Jane was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church Fayetteville as a regular church goer but also always willing to do various volunteer work. She became a Eucharist Minister to church participants as well as taking the Eucharist to nearby nursing homes and Crouse Hospital, she was a regular counter, and delivered flowers during holidays to shut ins.

B.J. will be remembered as a devoted, loving wife and mother who had a wonderful sense of humor even to the end.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Reynolds Mitscher and two daughters, Pamela Louise Mitscher-Nelson and Mary Ellen Mitscher.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 10 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.
