Our beloved son and brother, Brett C. Helmer, 41, of Manlius, formerly of San Diego, passed away on September 9, 2020.  He was born in Syracuse and graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo. Brett had a great zest for life. He always loved sharing time with friends and family, whether it be skiing at Song Mountain in the winter or spending summers on Skaneateles Lake. Brett had a kind, loving heart and will be truly missed.

He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Jack Helmer, and his maternal grandfather, Charles Dougherty. Brett is survived by his parents, Ellen Helmer and James Helmer (Kitty Pasqua); his two brothers, Christopher and Mark; his sister-in-law, Amy Helmer; his paternal grandmother, Cookie Helmer; his maternal grandmother, Mary Dougherty; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we request that donations instead be made to the Central New York SPCA or a charity of your choice.

Dear Helmer family,

I was saddened to hear of Brett's passing. I have many fond memories of Brett in my first 4th grade classroom at Enders Road School. I especially remember how much he enjoyed our spirited recess football games. My thoughts are with you.
