Obituary for Carol Ann "Dusti" Rhoades

     Carol Ann Rhoades “Dusti”, 73, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Sun City Center, Florida on April 15, 2023. Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, she was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Orville “Dusty” Rhoades; her brothers, Donald and Robert (Barbara) Rhoades; and her beloved grandmother, Anna Durkee.
     She is survived by her niece, Renee Rhoades; and cousins, Dee Durkee (Peter) Baenziger, David (Kathy) Durkee, Debra Durkee (Harley) Jaques, Douglas Durkee, Daniel (Janice) Durkee, Darren (Karin) Durkee, Darrell Durkee, and Bryan (Diane) Hopkins.
     Carol was a very independent and caring person. She loved her pet, Annie, a 3 year old registered Sheltie who has been adopted by another Sheltie owner in her community. Annie is doing well. She was recently enjoying karaoke and dancing.
     Carol was a talented artist also. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Keuka College in New York where she was president of her class. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Art Education from Syracuse University. Carol taught Art at DeRuyter High School, was employed by Laubach Adult Literacy in Syracuse where she also taught, and was a substance abuse counselor for Yates County in Penn Yan, New York. She will be remembered for her kind spirit by all who knew her.
     Her ashes will be buried at White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt, New York alongside her parents and both brothers.
