Obituary for Cynthia L. LaVaute (Webber)

Cindy LaVaute, the beloved wife of James and loving mother of Amy LaVaute, Jeffrey (Janice) LaVaute and Sharon (Anthony) Costantino, passed away on Tuesday, May 4. She was an adoring Nana to Jonathan and Emma Dobrovech; Chloe, Nathan, and Ryan LaVaute; and Carter, Chase, and Ella Costantino.

Born October 10, 1950 in Syracuse to Joseph and Virginia (Sova) Webber, Cindy graduated from Corcoran High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1973. It was during this time, while working at Green Hills Farms that she met Jim.

Cindy and Jim married on August 21, 1971 and raised their three children in Manlius. She was an active member of St. Ann’s parish and involved in religious education. She was a substitute teacher in the Fayetteville-Manlius school district and an avid tennis player. She volunteered her time as a Girl Scouts mother, youth soccer coach, and spent many a day attending violin lessons, school clubs, and athletic games. In 1994 she earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Syracuse University and taught at HW Smith Elementary School and Huntington Learning Center. Her proudest achievement was being a grandmother. She was loving and cherished the time spent with her precious grandchildren.

Cindy and Jim enjoyed family trips to Cape Cod and Outer Banks and solo trips to London, Paris, Italy, and China. They enjoyed biking with their dear friends in California, Montana, Seattle, and Minnesota. Unfortunately, health complications and unrelenting pain made her later years difficult.

Cynthia is predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Eells and Sheri Fuller. She is survived by two sisters, Colleen (Michael) Ries, Nancy Flynn, and a brother Joseph (Kathy) Webber. She will be missed by all who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Crouse Health Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. David Landsberg and the Crouse ICU nurses and care team for their compassion in her final days. To honor her wishes, there will be a private celebration of life and remembrance to be held in the future.
