Obituary for Dario Biagiarelli

CMSgt. Dario Biagiarelli (Ret.) passed away on May 23, 2021 at his home in Manlius, NY at age 86 from natural causes, a decades-long cancer battle, and multiple serious health issues.

He was born in 1934 in New Haven, CT to Albert and Lena Biagiarelli. Attending UCONN for three years, he then enlisted in the US Air Force in 1957. In 1959, he and Joanna Quigley married in Rome, NY, as they embarked on a dedicated military life for 29 years.

Retiring in 1986, he enthusiastically embraced old and new hobbies with continued study. As a talented woodworker, he created numerous art pieces, beautiful furniture, and unique special gifts for the family. He loved gardening and produced lovely areas of flowers, vegetables, and greenery. Having several how-to articles published was a high point of satisfaction for him His favorite entertainment was cheering for SU Basketball.

At home and work, Dario was a perfectionist. He required honesty, doing one’s best, and going the extra mile for himself and others. In the Air Force, he found the perfectly-suited lifetime career. He was an Aircraft Control and Warning Radar Technician, next became an Automatic Tracking Radar Supervisor, and ultimately a Communications Electronics Systems Manager. His drive, ethics, and love for the job brought him to achieving Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Longevity Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanna; daughter, Daria Biagiarelli; son, Kenneth Biagiarelli; and grandson, Christopher Coia of Syracuse. He is also survived by his sister, Diane (Don) Anastasio; nieces, Tina (Mace) Vitale, Marisa Anastasio; and grandniece, Elena Vitale, all of CT; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Paul) King of Florida.

The family has profound gratitude to the wonderful Veterans Administration Team, who were our daily strength.

A private family service will be held.
