Obituary for Darshan S. Dosanjh

On Friday, November 22, 2019, Syracuse University Professor Emeritus Darshan Singh Dosanjh, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 98.
Professor Dosanjh was born in 1921 in Sultanwind, Punjab, India, and came to the United States in 1946, beginning in the masters program at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.  He earned his M.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1948, and his Ph.D. in Aerospace from Johns Hopkins University in 1953. In 1957, he joined the Syracuse University faculty as an Associate Professor in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, later earning tenure and the rank of Professor.
Also in 1957, he married Harwant Gill. They raised two daughters, Amrita (a Pediatric Pulmonologist in San Diego) and Kiren Dosanjh Zucker (a Professor in the Department of Accounting at Cal State Northridge), and one son, Rajit (an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of New York).
Professor Dosanjh took great pride in their accomplishments.  Besides teaching and mentoring generations of engineering students at Syracuse, Professor Dosanjh loved discussing politics, spending time at the family's cottage on Lake Ontario, and gardening, with a special fondness for growing dahlias.
Along with his three children, Darshan is survived by his wife Harwant (a former Professor of Chemistry and Math at Cazenovia College), his daughter-in-law, Maura Tumulty (an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Colgate), son-in-law, Bruce Zucker (a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies at Cal State Northridge), and four grandchildren, Fiona, Dani, Darah, and Iain.
Calling hours will be from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, November 26th, and a funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 27th, both at Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd, Manlius.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Democratic National Committee or Syracuse University Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering.
