Obituary for David J. Orlando

David James Orlando, age 62, passed away July 31, 2019 at his home in Boca Raton, FL after a courageous 13 year battle with cancer.

David graduated from Jamesville Dewitt High School in 1975 and attended Paul Smith College. He graduated from Mohawk Valley Police Academy and worked as a police officer for the Dewitt Police and East Syracuse Police, and he retired as a deputy sheriff for Madison County in 2014. While he loved the thrill of police work, what he was most proud of was the compassion he brought to his job. David also owned several businesses throughout his life.

His passions were boundless. He loved hunting and fishing and he taught hunter safety classes for many years. David raised chickens, cows and pigs and he so enjoyed the farm to table experience, culminating in cooking for and feeding family and friends every day. His family was his top priority and he loved spending time at the camp he built in Osceola, NY.

He is survived by his wife Arna Lynne Vatne Orlando; his sons, David Jr (Stephanie), Michael (Kim Mezger), Matthew (Joe Brozek) and daughter, Chloe; a granddaughter Olivia Orlando; his parents, James and Phyllis Orlando; his sisters, Donna (Jud) Staller and Kathy (Jon) Verbeck; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday August 9, 2019 at 11am at the Eaton Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
