Obituary for David R. Peil

David R. Peil, 87, of East Syracuse passed away peacefully July 1. David was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Arthur and Gertrude Peil. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany after the Korean War, in the U.S. Army Reserve for 25 years. He worked for Carrier Corporation until his retirement in 1991.

David was a member of the Syracuse Masters Swim Club and competed in several Empire State Games. He was a longtime member of the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, having served as Vice President on the Board of Trustees.

His interests included hunting, traveling, swimming, Civil War history and the Erie Canal.

David is predeceased by Donna, his wife of 62 years and his brother Robert. Surviving are his daughter, Laura (Robert) Ravera of E. Syracuse; sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Schenectady, Steven (Charlene) of Cicero and Richard (Ginette) of Constantia; grandchildren, James, Kathryn and Matthew Peil, Ashley Murfitt and Melissa Peil, Elena, Olivia and Daniel Ravera and great-grandchild Cheyenne Williams.

A celebration of life will be Sunday, August 11 from 1-3 pm at the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, 717 Lakeport Rd., Chittenango, NY 13037. Burial will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Nottingham for their excellent care of David these past 3 years.
