Obituary for Donna C. McIntosh

Donna C. McIntosh of Fayetteville passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021 surrounded by family at her home in Fayetteville on her way to be with God our Father and Saint Marianne Cope.

Donna was born on May 18, 1946 in Annapolis, MD to Stanley and Mildred Deroski. She grew up on Long Island, NY, graduated from Southold High School and attended the White Plains Hospital Nursing School, receiving her degree of Registered Nurse.

Donna’s “DASH” could fill this entire page. During her love filled life, a few of the places you would often find her would be at her easel with a paint brush in hand, pulling weeds at the church, donating time in the kitchen at the Fayetteville Senior Center, or serving coffee at Immaculate Conception Church where she was affiliated.

She had an incredible passion and talent for gardening pretty much anything, but mostly flowers. Her home in the village and lake house had many more beautiful gardens than the average property. She would take great pleasure and pride in each of them. She also enjoyed painting landscapes and wildlife and created some beautiful paintings.

Donna was co-founder of Inter-Action Marketing, A Better Chimney Sweep and founder of “Lifting Spirits One Flower at a Time”, aka Lifting Spirits. Donna had set up a small area of her garage where families could donate flower arrangements after funerals. She would then take these large arrangements and create dozens of smaller beautiful arrangements. These smaller arrangements were then delivered to local retirement community residents personally by Donna. In the three years that Donna lifted spirits, she created over 5,000 floral arrangements for others. She brightened so many people’s days and gave forgotten flowers new life.

Donna loved to give back in other ways; she served on the Committee of the Deaf of OCM BOCES, Chairperson of the Bereavement Committee at IC Church, she was president of the Brookside Association and President of The Tip Club of Syracuse. During her tenure as Chairperson of the Fayetteville Senior Center, one of her many accomplishments was being responsible for the addition of Parnell Hall, a large multi-use room.

One of her proudest days was on December 8, 2019 when she and her husband, Henry, were presented the Immaculata Medallion by Bishop Lucia, the Bishop of Syracuse, in recognition of their extraordinary service to her parish over the many years.

Donna was predeceased by her parents; her brother, William Deroski; and sister, Sandra Atkinson.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Henry McIntosh; two sons, Scott McIntosh of Los Angeles, Todd McIntosh; daughter-in-law, Marni-Jo McIntosh; and two grandchildren, Jana McIntosh and Logan McIntosh, all of Fayetteville, NY. She is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Stepnowski of Southold, NY, Marylou Bednosky of Southold, NY and Patricia Devos of Crossville, TN.

Friends and family may call from 9-10am on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. A memorial Mass will follow at 10 am at the church. The funeral mass may be accessed through a LiveStream broadcast accessible at https://icfayetteville.org/funerals/ Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Fayetteville Senior Center, 584 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville, NY 13066.
