Dorothy M. Shaffer, 89, of Minoa passed away peacefully at The Cottages on December 16th. She was born September 11, 1930 in Manlius and graduated from Manlius High School. She met and married in 1949 her husband, Roy F. Shaffer, who preceded her in death in 1994. Surviving are their eleven children, Keith (Maureen), Sandra (James) Flanagan, Patricia (John) Sprague, David (Susan), Michael (Lynn), Barbara (Wayne) Scales, Trudy (Ross) Goodrich, Eric (Melony), Roy Jr. (Pamela), Andrew (Christina), Beth (Erik) Wilson; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The thing she cherished most in life was her family. Her favorite thing to do was attend any sporting event of her children and grandchildren. Her favorite times were when she was holding a new baby, family picnics and holiday gatherings. She loved SU basketball and the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as visiting her children and relatives who live far away. She dedicated most of her career to the elderly and frail, working many years as a nurse’s aide.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 am to Noon on Friday at Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd., Manlius. Burial will be in Manlius Village Cemetery.
