Obituary for Earl J. Stone

Earl James Stone, 92, of Manlius, NY, passed away on February 28, 2019 after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving daughter, Janet Stone McGuigan; his devoted son-in-law, Peter McGuigan; his cherished grandsons, Peter and James; his identical twin and best friend, Darrell Stone; and many nieces and nephews, of whom he was very fond. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Beulah “Boots” Stone, in 2013.
Earl was born in East Homer, NY, and after starting his education in a one-room schoolhouse, graduated from Clarkson College (now University) with a degree in civil engineering in 1950. Between high school and college, as World War II was drawing to a close, he performed his military service with the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. After graduating college with an ROTC scholarship, he served in Korea as a first lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Earl went on to enjoy a long career with Hoffman Air and Filtration Systems in East Syracuse, NY, continuing to consult with the company even after he retired.
Earl enjoyed traveling, both for work and for pleasure, and was a contributing congregant of his church. He was an avid follower of Syracuse University sports teams and a proud supporter of the Fayetteville-Manlius public schools. He had a healthy and active life, living independently until the very end.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 11am at the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, 601 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville, to be followed by a luncheon and brief graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully suggests that contributions in his memory be made in support of Meals on Wheels, the large print collection of a local library, or a charity serving veterans.
