Obituary for Edward J. Purcell, Sr.

 

     Edward J. Purcell, Sr. 85 of Pompey passed away at home after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.  He married his High School sweetheart, Carol, in 1957.  He was a truck driver for Allied Chemical and at Syracuse Glass Co.  Ed was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Pompey.  He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   He most enjoyed each grandchild’s first birthday when he would instigate them into diving into their cake.
     He is survived by his children, Edward “Jim” Purcell, Jr. (Cindy Ingles), Patricia (Ted) Stearns, Tom (Tammy) Purcell, Kenny Purcell (Donna Alnutt), Joanne (Mark) Dow and Bob (Mary) Purcell; grandchildren, David (Carl) Stearns, Kevin (Ashley) Stearns and James Stearns, Kayla Purcell (Nick Darrah), Megan and Brian Purcell, Eric and Melissa Dow, Kirstine Purcell and Courtney (Dave) Stanton; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Mason and Henry Stearns, Cooper, Cal , Weston, Walker and Laynee Carol Stanton; sisters, Ruth Gooden and Mary Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
     He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Carol Rosenberg Purcell; brother, Ray Purcell; and sister, Kate Hochstuhl.
    Calling hours will be from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 5th at Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Rd., Manlius.  The Mass of Christian burial will be 12:00 pm on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 7386 Academy St., Pompey.  The burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Pompey.
