Obituary for Edward P. Loftus

Edward P. Loftus, son of Edward E. and Mildred DeWitt Loftus passed away at home on May 8th. He attended Most Holy Rosary Grammar & High School. He graduated from LeMoyne College with a BS in Mathematics and the University of Detroit with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 44 years.

He was a life-time member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was also a past director of the Illuminating Engineers of North America, and New York State Association of Transportation Engineers. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and past member of the Ancient order of Hibernians and the Willowbank Yacht Club in Cazenovia. Ed also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Hansen, his children, Edward F. (Elizabeth) and grandson, Edward J. Loftus; Moira C. Dick and Michelle M. Loftus all of Syracuse, Brian P. (Susy) of Elgin, Texas, and Michael E.(Vanessa) and grandson, Gabriel and granddaughter, Jillian of Henrietta, NY. Ed is also survived by his brothers J. David of Sandy, Utah and Michael (Jean) of Syracuse.

He was previously married to Maureen Gaynor Loftus, who died in 1967. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish in DeWitt and Saint Joseph’s in LaFayette.

The family wishes to thank Mary Ann Esposito for her dedicated care for Edward.

Due to the pandemic, services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
