Obituary for Edwin M. Waterschoot

Edwin M Waterschoot passed away peacefully on May 24, 2021 at home with his wife by his side.

He was the son of Henricus and Paulina F. Waterschoot, immigrants to US in 1958, the year of Ed’s birth. He leaves behind his wife Susan, his devoted wife of almost 38 years. Ed was survived by his mother, Paulina; his brother, Henry; and sisters, Yvonne (Michael Loudis) and Maryann (Donald Rosenberg); mother-in law, Margaret Arnold; sister-in-law, Barbara Arnold; and sister-in-law, Carol (Mark Miller). In addition, he leaves behind nieces, Christina and Amy Miller and Maria Loudis.

Ed was valedictorian of Windsor Locks High School (CT, 1976), graduated from the University of Hartford College of Engineering (Summa Cum Laude), completed a master’s degree at Syracuse University, and was a Graduate of General Electrics’ Advanced Course in Engineering. He worked 33 years at Lockheed Martin as a systems engineer, working on active and passive sonars and radars for our nation’s defense in the area of signal processing. He enjoyed mentoring younger engineers.

Ed was an avid do-it-yourselfer. He extensively remodeled their Fayetteville home, adding a garage and family room. Every year a garden was grown to get great tasting tomatoes that were grown organically before the term became popular. Aside from his wife, Ed’s great passion was woodworking. He enjoyed making fine furnishings and toys for Susan and other family members. He especially loved cherry. While not world renown, his projects have been sent to Europe and New Zealand.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 10th at the Skyline Lodge at Highland Forest County Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
