Francis A. Barone, 86, of East Syracuse passed away peacefully on Saturday evening June 8, 2019 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Hornell on March 22, 1933 he was the son of Salvatore and Rose Barone. He was a graduate of Hornell High where he met his high school sweetheart, Rosetta Harding.
Francis is an Army Veteran and retired in 1988 from the New York State Department of Transportation after 37 years as an Engineer and Constructing Project Supervisor. He had numerous hobbies including archaeology and fishing. He was a member of the NYS and Penna Archeology Societies and a life member of the NYS Association of Transportation Engineers. Fran enjoyed spending time with his family at family cottage that he built on Oneida Lake.
He is predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Edward and Robert.
Fran is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosie; sons Richard (Rosalie) and Gerald (Gabriele) Barone; grandchildren, Cailee, Nicholas, Paul, Christopher and Mark; and nine great grandchildren; brother, John (Patti) Barone; sister, Sally (Steve) Van Camp; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Onondaga Center for all their kindness and extra attention to Fran over the last 7 years.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7pm at the R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp Corners Road, Minoa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, Minoa. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
