Georgiana (widow of Joel) Mareiniss passed away peacefully February 28, 2022 with family by her side, she was 91. Born in Fulton, NY as one of eight children of Sicilian immigrant parents, Leonardo Sorbello and Maria Greco. She was raised in the Syracuse area since the mid 50’s, most recently relocating to Jacksonville, FL in late 2021 from East Syracuse. During the course of her career, Georgiana, fashion and life-style modeled for a variety of events and publications. She held several positions as an executive administrative assistant at QPK Architects, General Electric Company and Bristol Meyers Squibb.
Georgiana was predeceased by her brothers, Sam, Rosario, Joe and Leo Sorbello; sisters, Rose (Joe) Turrisi, Frances (Henry) Kramer and Santina Sorbello; and her oldest daughter, Judy Mareiniss.
After retirement, Georgiana and Joel, former voice of Syracuse University football and basketball, as well as WSYR TV anchor, travelled extensively throughout the US in their RV. Georgiana loved to dance and liked to play an occasional round of golf or have a volley on the tennis court. She was a steadfast planner of family camping trips while raising her children. A devote born again Christian, she was active in her churches, Abundant Life and Church of the Resurrection, often hosting bible studies and other events at her home. Greatly loved by many, Georgiana could light up a room with a contagious laugh and her sense of humor.
She is survived by daughter, Amy (Michael) Danial of Liverpool and son, David of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; grandchildren, Emily Joy and Jordan Damiani (formerly Danial), Luke and Asa Mareiniss; and great grand children, Marco and Koda Damiana.
A memorial celebration service with repast following is planned at Life Church on Collamer Road on March 26, 2022 at 3:00 pm.
