Obituary for James P. McDonald

James Patrick McDonald, 91, of Mycenae died peacefully at Menorah Park with his eldest daughter by his side. He was born in Syracuse to Robert and Marie Zimmerman McDonald. Jim graduated from Fayetteville High School, served in the Navy and received a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University. He worked as a structural engineer at Winkrete and Stopen Engineering until age 90. You will recognize his work when you see the concrete structural panels of the Carrier Dome, the center columns at Destiny Mall and when you walk over the pedestrian bridge at the NY State Fair.

Jim was an active member and communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville where he was a counter until he was 89 years old and collected for the Hope Appeal. He enjoyed photography, motorcycle riding, bird watching, reading and visiting with family and friends.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Christine (née Marquisee) in 1996; parents; sister, Jane Himpler; and brothers, Robert, Richard, John Keith, Dolan, Michael and Daniel.

He is survived by his children, Melissa (César Cardozo), Michelle (Michael) Sennett, James (Paula), Mary Ann (Jeff) McKay, Ruth (Richard Bassett), Dolan and Joseph (Kathy); grandchildren, David, Miriam, Melissa, Eric, Corey, Erin, Haley, Ryan, Drake, Connor and Makenna; great grandchildren, Jacob, Sara, Robert, Richard and Adalee; sister, Kathleen (Thomas) Collins; two brothers, William and Emmett McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 21 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Friday, November 22 at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Fayetteville.
