Janet
C.
Hansen-Coon
Janet Hansen-Coon, 77, of Chittenango, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 21, 2023.
Janet was born in Portsmouth, NH, the daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Brassard) Castonguay. She spent her early years in Manchester, NH and later went on to call New Jersey and then Pennsylvania home, before ultimately settling in Chittenango, New York. Janet graduated from St. Joseph Girls High School in Manchester, NH and later earned her BA in Psychology from Rutgers University College.
When her children were young, Janet owned and ran a small, independent bookstore in Scotch Plains, NJ. As the years passed, Janet sold the store and she began taking college courses and working for various businesses such as AT&T, EDS, and even did a stint selling cars. Janet’s final career before retirement was as a Project Manager/Program Coordinator with Rutgers University CAIT program.
Upon retirement, Janet was able to dedicate more time to her true passion. She truly had a green thumb. She was happiest working in her garden growing vegetables to feed her family and cultivating colorful plants to beautify her world. Food was Janet’s love language, always eager to spoil her family and friends with their favorite dishes. Her home was often filled with music; Jazz and Opera typically blaring from the speakers. Outside of the garden and kitchen, Janet enjoyed traveling, collecting mementos from trips to the beach, and engaging in the spirit of competition. She enjoyed playing cards, Mahjong and Bocce, especially if she was winning.
She is survived by her loving husband of two years, Paul Coon; daughters, Karen (Jonathan) DeBonis, Christine Hansen, Jennifer (Josh) Goodhart; stepchildren, Joseph (Martyna) Orth, Jody (Edward) Mount, Brian (Lori) Coon, Tim (Marvella) Coon, Karen (Kevin) Bailey; sister, Ann Brazawski; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by former partner, Martin Orth and brother-in-law, Bill Brazawski.
Calling hours will be from 11 AM to 1PM on Monday February 27, 2023 at United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, 601 E. Genesee St, Fayetteville. A funeral service will follow at 1PM at the church.
