Obituary for Janice E. Fleischmann

Janice Elaine (Jones) Fleischmann, 83, passed away peacefully at Francis House in Syracuse, NY on May 30, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born September 18, 1938 in Waterville, NY, the daughter of Ralph and Cecile (Burnham) Jones. Janice married her high school sweetheart, Paul Fleischmann, in Deansboro, NY on June 7, 1958. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2020.

Janice was predeceased by her husband Paul, her parents, brother-in-law Michael Fuks, and brothers-in-law Frank Fleischmann and Vail (Edith) Fleischmann.

Janice is survived by her daughter Laura (Ted) Rozelsky of Cortland, NY, sister Marlene Fuks of Mesa, AZ, sister-in-law Ann (Kenneth) Ingersoll of Waterville, NY, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

Janice graduated from Waterville High School in 1956, followed by business school, and then served as a bookkeeper and secretary. She was a loving, devoted stay-at-home mother and wife during the height of the Space Race when Paul (employed by Link Simulation in Binghamton) worked with the Apollo Space Program and Space Shuttle. Her fortitude and tremendous organizing skills were instrumental when, given one-to-three-days’ notice, she moved the family to Cape Canaveral, and later Houston, for multi-month space program relocations.

Janice enjoyed simple pleasures: flower gardening, nature, reading, family, friends, and travel, especially to coastal Maine and PA Dutch Country. She also loved seasonal decorating. From pumpkins to lighthouses, Santa to the Easter Bunny, she always made the home special with her creative touch.

In retirement, Janice was an avid learner, attending educational programs at OASIS, local libraries, and senior centers. For several years, she and Paul led a weekly discussion group at the Oaks at Menorah Park, and together they were supporting members of the CNY Genealogy Society and the CNY PC Users Group.

Per Janice’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. The immediate family will have a private memorial. Please consider donations to Francis House in Syracuse, NY, Hospice of CNY in Liverpool, NY, or a charity of your choice.
