Jean E. Carroll, 99, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at home with her family by her side. Jean was born in Massena, NY the daughter of Muriel and Earl Fisher. She was the loving wife of Donald for 59 years before his death in 2014. Along with Donald, Jean was predeceased by their son, James and her brother, Erwin.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn of Fayetteville, William of Skaneateles and David & Susan of Manlius; 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Derek, Gregory, Matthew, Emily, Andrea, Michael, Teresa, Allison and Nicholas; and nine great-grandchildren all of whom Jean adored.
Jean led an incredible life; her love of music started at age 4 when she took her first piano lesson. At age 12 she took over giving lessons for her teacher, when her teacher had a car accident.
In 1939 she had the pleasure of playing the piano at the World’s Fair in New York City. Jean graduated from Syracuse University, School of Music, Class of 1945. She went on to teach piano in Macon, GA before coming back to New York, where she met her future husband by sharing her chicken salad sandwich with him on a train while he was a soldier in uniform coming home from World War II.
Don and Jean settled in Fayetteville in 1954 where she taught private piano lessons for over 75 years. In her final years she played at the Fayetteville Senior Center where she often said she was playing for the “old folks” (most of them who were younger than Jean).
Jean was a selfless person who always thought of others first and made sure her elderly neighbors had holiday meals and the less fortunate had gifts for the holidays. Jean’s passions included family time at camp on Skaneateles Lake, the Theater, her thousands of pupils; but most of all her family.
The Carroll family would like to thank Danuta, Mirka and Martha for their tireless and loving care for our mother we are truly grateful for their time and patience with our family during this time.
