Obituary for Joan B. Pierson

Joan B. Pierson, 74, of Syracuse, passed away on January 30, 2020. Born March 29, 1945 in Binghamton, she was the daughter of John and Roberta Pierson. After earning a Masters degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, she went on to become a Family & Consumer Science Teacher in the Jamesville-DeWitt Schools for thirty seven years.

A member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the NY State Teachers Association, Joan also enjoyed crafting, quilting and genealogy. She was very artistic and creative. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a grandmother extraordinaire. The kids and Uma (as she was lovingly nicknamed) were never happier then when they were playing in the snow in Syracuse or splashing in the ocean at the Jersey Shore.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lois McRoberts and a brother, George Pierson.

Surviving are her daughter, Amy (Orlando) Villanueva of Belleville, NJ; cherished grandchildren, Lucas, Luna, and soon-to-be-born Leo; brother, Charles Pierson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews and other loving family members; as well as many close friends who supported her during the final few months.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers of the Francis House for their amazing care and compassion.

Family and friends may call from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, February 4 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E Genesee St, Fayetteville. The funeral will be at 10 am on Wednesday, February 5 at the funeral home. Burial will in Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Francis House or the American Cancer Society.
