Obituary for Joan Warren Barrett Byrne

Joan Warren Barrett Byrne, 74, of Manlius and Penn Yan, NY, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 11, 2019 after a brief illness.

Joan lived a full life, filled with family, friends, travel and adventure. Her favorite activity was to make people laugh and try to lighten their day. She was best known for her boundless energy and infectious smile.

Joan was born in Syracuse on April 13, 1945 to Albert and Julia (Kapuscienski) Warren. She attended Eastwood High School and Syracuse University. Known as the “Carpet Queen”, she was Founder and President of the interior design and home improvement company, The Source, Inc, for 25 years. She later worked in sales for the family business, Our Daily Eats.

Joan was an active member of her community throughout her life, serving as a board member of the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, co-founder of the Syracuse University Mentoring Program for the School of Management and Court Observer with the Onondaga County Probation Department. She was a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Crouse Irving Auxiliary, Syracuse University School of Management Alumni Association, Syracuse Junior League, Town of Manlius Women’s Committee, Cavalry Club and Willowbank Yacht Club.

She was a committed volunteer and supporter of the DOVES Foundation, Literacy Volunteers of America, Camp Good Days, the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.

Joan is survived by her husband, Alan Byrne; three sons, Peter, Paul and Brian; “daughters-in-love”, Ashley and Caroline; and six grandchildren, Mason, Miles, Lucy, Zoe, Elliot and Breck. She is also survived by her two brothers, John and James (and wife Karen) Warren; nieces, Jennifer and Ashley Warren; nephew, Andrew Warren; cousin, Patty Keir; and “miracle” ball of fur, Aggie.

Calling hours will be held at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel at 7191 E. Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY, on Friday, December 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A church service will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 11:30 am at St. Luke’s Church in Branchport, NY on Saturday, December 21 at 11:30 am. Private burial will follow.
