Obituary for John J. Hodge

John J. Hodge, 87, died of complications of Covid at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse on January 15, 2021. He was born September 19, 1933, in Oakland, CA, the son of Carroll C. and Helen Mary (January) Hodge.

John graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, in 1955. Following graduation, he served as an Army cryptographer. He married the love of his life, Anina Holden Hills, in June 1958. They settled in Syracuse, where John retired as a senior insurance premium auditor. One of John’s life passions was singing. He spent many joyous moments performing in high school, in The Trinity Pipes a cappella group in college, and into his 70s with church choirs and chorales, where he often performed solos.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Anina (Hills) Hodge; his son, John J. Hodge, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Atlanta; daughters, Anina (Jan) Lapp, of Minnetonka, MN and Carolyn Taylor and her husband, Glen of Conifer, CO; six grandchildren, Caitlyn Hodge, Thomas (TJ) Hodge, Adam Lapp, Alex Lapp, Holden Taylor and Peyton Taylor; several nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.

Burial will be private and no calling hours are planned.

John’s family is grateful for the care he received at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville and Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
