Obituary for John W. White

John William White, 76, of Manlius passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. He was born in Burlington, VT, the son of the late Milton and Muriel White.

     He grew up in Derry, NH, and moved to Syracuse in 1964. He attended Onondaga and Auburn Community Colleges, and graduated with a degree in chemistry from SUNY Fredonia.

    He founded John W. White Construction Company with the philosophy “no job is too big or too small”. His construction company worked on a variety of projects, including installing the countertops in the original Carrier Dome, worked on a CNY Waste Water Treatment Plant, and numerous residential projects. John took pride in his work and always went above and beyond for his clients. His goal was to bring every  customers’ vision to life.

     He was a member of the Temple Society of Concord, co-founder of Boy Scout Troup 369 in Manlius, and served on the Hiawatha Council as Advancement Chairman. As an adult he completed his Wood Badge and led three Boy Scout expeditions at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. He was passionate about recycling, an avid golfer, enjoyed sudoku puzzles and all things sweet.

     Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Jan; daughter, Emily (Chad Morey, whom he thought of as a second son) White; son, Benjamin (Amy Harbourne) White; brothers, David (Carolyn), Douglas (Sonnia), and R. Gregory (Deborah) White; nieces, Jessica and Carrie; nephews, Jonathan, Jeremy, Jeffry White, and Joseph Shure. His loyal four-legged companions, Betsy and Molly.

He is predeceased by nephew Thomas White.

      Calling hours will be Thursday, March 2nd from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E Genesee St Fayetteville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or a local animal shelter of your choice.
