Obituary

After a incredibly vivid, much too short life, Joseph E. Cashier peacefully left us on Friday. Joe loved nothing more than spending time with the love of his life, Lisa, traveling the world and enjoying life’s adventurers. An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Joe loved spending the day on the water and cooking his catch for family and friends. His favorite places to fish were Alaska, Saint Simon's Island, GA and Oneida Lake. He had many friends whom he loved to spend time with; events and outings were just a bit more fun when Joe was around. As a lifelong athlete, being physically fit was an important part of Joe’s life.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 14 years, Lisa Tokar; his sisters, Jody (Tony) Willis of Jacksonville, FL, Gina Cashier of LaFayette and Jaime Cashier of Albany; his brother, John (Cathy) Cashier of Jamesville; sisters-in-law, Terri Tokar of Austin, TX and Jodi (Brian) Gallagher of Atlanta, GA.; nieces, Reghan (Mark) Worden, goddaughter and niece, Olivia Botelho, Elizabeth Santaferra; and nephew, Joel Cashier.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, 1133 15th St. NW, Suite 1000, Washington, DC 20005.

To Lisa, family and friends.I am incredibly sorry for your loss. To me, Joe was a life long friend. We shared memories of working together, fishing, hunting, skiing, strength training and breakfast at dinners (his favorite..banana walnut pancakes). We spent endless hours, talking about our different adventures and trips. He taught me how to build something with pride, how to talk to a turkey, wing shoot, entice any fish (perch, crappie, walleye, bass, salmon or steelhead) and how to always challenge myself physically. He always wanted details “details Barney, details” and taught me how to chase down curiosity. Joe was a life long learner in everything he did and instilled in me a thirst for knowledge. We had many more years planned and it feels unbearable to think and of what it looks like without him by my side. He was a man that left a wonderful, unforgettable legacy to all who knew him and I will be honored to pass along all that he has taught me. Joe was the ultimate friend who will always be in my heart, missed every single day and loved forever. Miss you already my friend.
