Joseph J. Mahr, beloved husband of 67 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, passed away March 31, 2022.

Born September 16, 1934 in Newark NJ, he was the son of Michael and Anna Mahr. Joe was a proud graduate of the Newark College of Engineering, now NJIT. Joe met his wife, Bernice, at Olympic Park NJ when he playfully offered her cotton candy.

After many years of working as a Mechanical Engineer and then in plastic injection molding, Joe and his family moved to CNY where he reinvented himself and was the first Home Inspector in the area. He grew his Home Inspection Business, American Home Inspection, into a training school, American Building Inspection and Training Company, where over the years he trained thousands of Home Inspectors all over the country. Joe founded and held the role of President of the local Home Inspector Chapter. He served on the board of the National Home Inspector Organization and loved to travel to conferences around the country. He never stopped learning.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Bernice; his children, Randy (Joan), Linda Doherty (Ed), Douglas (Kim) and Nancy Mahr-Tyler; his brother, Walter (Tam); his grandchildren, Eddie Doherty (Kelly) with great-grandchildren, Aisling, Aoife, baby boy on the way; Christopher Doherty (Lannie); Caitlin Carney (Sean) with great-grandchildren, Saoirse and Mairead; Joseph Mahr, Michael Mahr, Luke Mahr, Nicole Mahr, Joshua Mahr, Thomas Mahr, David Tyler, Katie Mahr, Brelyn Tyler, and Sydney Mahr. Joe was predeceased by his son, Joseph, both of his parents, and 7 of his siblings.

Joe proudly served as a Navy Reservist for 8 years. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, “I love them all”. He also loved to work and fix things, ice cream, SU sports, and most especially Polka music.

     Services will be private.

Cancer touched Joe’s life in many ways; in lieu of flowers the family requests you enjoy a cup of black coffee and make a donation to a cancer organization of your choice.
