Obituary for Kameshwar C. Wali

       Kameshwar C. Wali, eminent theoretical physicist and noted biographer, passed away peacefully at his home on January 14, 2022. He was internationally recognized as a theorist for his research into the symmetry properties of fundamental particles and their interactions. He was also a scholar of the humanities, writing biographies of the Nobel laureate S. Chandrasekhar, and S.N. Bose. He was a fellow of the American Physical Society and a founding member of the Forum on the History of Physics within the American Physical Society. He was the Steele Professor of Physics Emeritus at Syracuse University. He achieved the highest honor at Banaras Hindu University before attending the University of Wisconsin for his Doctorate.  He held many career and visiting appointments at Physics Institutes and Universities.  He was the author of numerous physics research papers, which he most recently compiled into a book, Fads and Fancies of Elementary Particle Physics: Selected Works of Kameshwar C. Wali, World Scientific Press, 2021.   He contributed to the intellectual life of Syracuse University as a co-founder of the University Lecture Series. 

    He was born on October 15, 1927 in Bijapur, India. 

    He married Kashi Wali, the love of his life in 1952 in Benares, India and shared many adventures with her for 69 years, until her passing in 2021.  He is survived by this three daughters, Alaka, Achala and Monona Wali; son-in-law, Richard Hubbard; six beloved grandchildren – Shanti and Eric Hubbard, Dinesh and Kavita Elliott, and Kanchan and Maya Wali Richardson  and a great granddaughter, Ruby Jean Kashi Hubbard.  He is also survived by a large extended family. He was a cherished colleague and friend to many scientists and humanists alike.
